Celebrating our 40 year anniversary in 2026
Our history
The Kangas Netball Club began, as all good ideas do, around a table at the North Albany Football Club. Many of the founding players had already tasted success together as the *Sailor Blues*, A1 Division Premiers in 1985. With partners playing footy for North Albany, affiliating with the club felt like the natural next step.
Our inaugural 1986 team featured Club Life Member Fiona Mountford, Annette Howie, Sue Pyle, Kathleen Mier, Kathy Keay, Sharon Morgan, Julie Clarke, Yvonne Horne, Naomi Howie and Debra Docking, with Kay Western always on the sidelines supporting and helping wherever needed as she still does today.
The Kangaroo logo was borrowed from the footy club, swapping the football for a netball and later adding a pleated skirt for a touch of flair.
In our very first season, we reached the Grand Final but fell narrowly to Independents after injuries struck on the day. The setback only fuelled us. The Kangas bounced back to claim back-to-back premierships in 1987 and 1988, cementing our place in club history.
When the ANA introduced the club system, we adapted, amalgamating with Flinders Park Primary School and competing as Kangas Flinders, for some years. Same spirit, same pride.
What started as a simple idea among friends became a legacy, one built on camaraderie, resilience, and a love of netball that continues to echo through the club to this day.
